Steamy Steam

I wish you could smell this photo! There is nothing quite like fresh cedar, so citrusy and fresh...nothing like cedar chests/closets.
This cedar is Northern(Eastern) White Cedar Thuja occidentalis. One of its traditional uses is to treat respiratory issues. While a tea/infusion can be used, I have found that steam inhalation is a particularly effective medium. It is high in volatile oils that disperse readily into steam.
Cedar and Salt can be used alone as a steam but I love to pair it with other synergistic herbs for a well-rounded healing steam. I love steams for respiratory issues because the steam takes the medicine directly to the tissues that need support. Steams are ideal for infections in the sinuses and lungs to clear and tonify tissues, for allergies, and to quiet coughs and soothe the mucous membranes in the mouth and throat.
