Did you know that catnip, (Nepeta cateria) is great for an upset tummy? The active ingredient, nepetalactone, was found to have a calming and stress relieve effect by the NYU Langone Medical Center, correlating to it's effectiveness in treating stomach upsets including diarrhea and gas, it may even be effective in easing menstrual cramps.
The catnip used in this blend is grown in abundance in my yard and is harvested mindfully and with permission and close supervision of my kitteh, Doodles.
Fennel Seed (Foeniculum vulgare) has been used for centuries to aid the digestive process and relieve gas and bloating. Used both before and after meals, the volatile compounds found in fennel seed (anethole, fenchone and estragole) help relax the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract and assist in reducing stomach cramps and bloating. It has also been shown to be helpful in treating IBS by increasing the production of gastric juices and assisting in the regulation of intestinal contractions helping to relieve cramps and trapped stomach gas. The fennel seed used in this blend in grown in my organic garden.
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) Ginger root is a rhizome used frequently for the treatment of dyspepsia (discomfort after eating or a cold and stagnant digestion), this includes the symptoms of bloating, heartburn, flatulence, and nausea. It is also considered helpful as a preventative for motion sickness. The ginger root used in this blend is certified organic and low heat dehydrated for each batch in my own kitchen.
